Kaduna State Police dismiss abd¥ction reports on Kaduna-Abuja highway

The Kaduna State Police Command swiftly refutes claims of an abd¥ction incident on the Kaduna-Abuja highway, emphasizing the need for accurate reporting to avoid misleading the public. In a statement released by ASP Mansur Hassan, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, journalists are urged to verify information thoroughly before disseminating it.

According to the statement, a significant gun battle unfolded on the Kaduna-Abuja expressway on January 6, 2024, around 2330 hours, between security forces and a group of armed bandits at the Dogon Fili area. The armed b@ndits attempted to cross the expressway towards the Jere axis, leading to a fierce confrontation with well-prepared security agents. The statement clarifies that the security agents successfully repelled the bandits, causing many of them to escape with gunshot wounds.

The public is called upon to be vigilant and report any individuals suspected of nursing bullet injuries to the nearest police station or security outfit. During the confrontation, six commuters on the highway sustained varying degrees of bullet injuries. The injured individuals, including Jibrin Tasiu, Jummai Abubakar, Zafira Abubakar, AbdulKarim Nurudeen, L/Cpl Chinedu Jerry Moneke, and Ayo James, were promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention.

While describing the incident as an “unfortunate isolated incident in a long time,” the Police Command assures the public that the Kaduna-Abuja expressway has been fortified for commuters’ safety. It urges citizens to dismiss the “misleading fear-inducing story” circulating in the media.

CP A.D. Ali, the Commissioner of Police for Kaduna State, emphasizes the importance of journalists verifying their stories with relevant security agencies before publishing. This, he asserts, will ensure the dissemination of accurate and credible information to the public.
