Gumel disclosed that clashes had erupted between supporters of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and those of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gaya Local Government Area (LGA) while jubilating the apex court victory of their respective parties. “We have since arrested five suspects, and we also have two victims on admission at General Hospital Gaya,” he stated.

The commissioner affirmed that the suspects would undergo a thorough investigation before being charged in court. He cautioned political figures in the state against engaging in violence or actions that could potentially trigger unrest.

In response to the incident, Gumel informed that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, had heightened security measures at identified locations across the state to prevent the breakdown of law and order. He urged leaders of all political parties to restrain their supporters from making unguarded statements that might lead to violence.

Security has been reinforced at strategic locations to uphold peace, and Gumel urged political supporters to celebrate responsibly without infringing on the rights of other members of the public. He issued a stern warning, stating that anyone or groups attempting to disrupt peace and cause a breakdown of law and order would face the full consequences of the law.
