The Yoruba Obas Forum (YOF) has conveyed sincere condolences to Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Olalekan Balogun, and the residents of Bodija in Ibadan affected by the tragic explosion on January 16, 2024.

In a jointly signed press release by the Administrator/National Deputy President of the Forum, HRM Oba (Dr.) Michael Odunayo Ajayi, Arowotawaya II, the Elerinmo of Erinmo Land, and the National Secretary, HRM Oba Dr. Abdulrasaq Adebayo Abioye, JP, GCOP (Ilufemiloye 1), Olukotun of Ikotun-Ile, Kwara State, the Forum expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, emphasizing the irreplaceable nature of such losses. They extended sympathies to the affected families.

 

The YOF commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his prompt intervention in the aftermath of the explosion, highlighting the need for collaboration between the government and traditional rulers in grassroots governance.

The press release urged the government to involve traditional rulers in addressing the escalating issue of illegal mining in local communities, which is often carried out by both foreigners and locals.
