Rivers State Speaker urges swift action from IGP following alleged assassination attempt

In a recent development, Mr. Edison Ehie, the Factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly (PDP-Ahoada 11), has urgently called on the Inspector General of Police to address the alleged misconduct of certain officers deployed to Rivers State.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Ehie recounted an alarming incident at his Port Harcourt residence. He claimed that, on Sunday at 11:00 p.m., a group of individuals, accompanied by armed police officers, forcefully invaded his home, firing shots in an apparent attempt to harm him and his family.

The Speaker asserted that these attacks commenced on October 30, following his public support for Governor Siminalaye Fubara, who faced an unjust removal attempt by some lawmakers. Ehie emphasized that standing against injustice had made him and his family targets for threats and attacks, especially after his election as the Speaker of the 10th Assembly.

Despite the adversity, Ehie expressed gratitude for the support shown by the people of the state when news of the alleged assassination attempt surfaced. He reiterated his unwavering support for Governor Fubara.

However, Mr. Olatunji Disu, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers, dismissed the Speaker’s claims. The situation raises concerns about the safety and security of public figures in the state, prompting calls for a swift and thorough investigation by the Inspector General of Police.
