COAS urges Nigerian army commanders to intensify efforts against insecurity

Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has called upon field commanders of the Nigerian Army to leverage the insights gained from the recently concluded COAS Annual Conference in Maiduguri to strengthen efforts in addressing the prevailing insecurity challenges.

During the closing ceremony held at the Command Guest House in Maiduguri, Borno State, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations, conveyed the COAS’s directive to enhance military operations promptly. General Lagbaja emphasized the need to prioritize the safety and protection of citizens against unconventional threats.

The COAS instructed commanders to develop comprehensive plans for dealing decisively with adversaries within their Areas of Responsibilities while exercising restraint in interactions with law-abiding citizens. Aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive, General Lagbaja urged commanders to optimize their capacities to justify the resources allocated to national security.

The Annual Conference, held under the theme ‘Personnel Motivation for Effective Operational Performance in a Joint Environment,’ provided a platform for the Nigerian Army to thoroughly review training, operations, and administrative activities. The COAS emphasized that the discussions addressed various aspects, including troops’ morale and the essential components of the Nigerian Army.

Acknowledging the enormity of the tasks ahead, Lagbaja stressed the importance of enhancing communication channels with other security agencies involved in internal security operations. This collaboration aims to create a secure environment conducive to good governance and economic prosperity for the Nigerian people.
