Additionally, the management of FUTA has put on hold the registration of returning students and the payment of fees for the new academic session, which was initially scheduled to commence on Monday, January 15, 2024.
The statement clarified that despite public speculation, the institution did not open the portal for the registration of returning students for the new session. It also addressed the proposed new fees, explaining that they primarily pertain to student-related services influenced by economic factors. The costs for goods and services provided by the university, such as hostel maintenance, water, electricity, and cleaning, have increased, leading to adjustments in charges.
It was emphasized that tuition remains free for all students, and no fees are being charged as tuition. The protests from FUTA students were sparked by a 100% increase in their tuition fees.
